When I purchased this truck, I knew that I was going to have to do something about the front seats.
The driver seat was not too bad, however the seat cover was torn on the outer edge. Looking under the seat, it became apparent that these seats were definitely not out of a compatible Blazer. Instead of adapting the seats to the older frame, however, the old lower seat tracks were brazed to the seat adjuster from the replacement seats. Other than being brazed and not structurally welded together, this side was done quite well.
The passenger side… Lets start with the 2×4 screwed to a 2×6 and wood screwed to the floor pan to support the back of the seat! Yeah, the seat had the factory flip forward front mounts, but did not keep the factory catch in the back. In fact, there was nothing there to keep the seat from flipping forward. It is a good thing that whoever did the work decided to remove the lift assist springs that were on the front mounts. The next scary thing was that the front mounts were again brazed to the seat adjuster, but now this was only on one side of the 1" wide original mount which was just hacked off of the original seat frame.
Suffice to say, I needed to remedy these problems before I would ever be comfortable to have anyone use this vehicle, let alone ride along with me. I was able to find a set of ’76 seats on eBay for cheap with the auction coming to close. For $10 plus $90 to meet up with the seller half way. The pictures below show that these seats are 99% complete with the only missing component being the cross bar between the right and left adjusters on the driver seat frame.
