Transmission
A while back, I had the stock TH350 lose 3rd gear on me. My uncle had another TH350 (with longer tail shaft) under his barn which I was able to trade for some work that needed to be done on his truck. That transmission worked good and is still in the car now.
I want to install a lock-up four speed automatic transmission like the 4L60E. I am planning on finding one at a local scrap yard and rebuilding it myself. I ordered the ASTG manuals for the 4L60E. I know their short comings having had quite a few vehicles equiped with them. I am planning on installing the stronger “Beast” sunshell during the rebuild as well as perform any updates that are available to the valve body, bands, clutches, and pump.
As far as the swap goes, I am still searching for information. I found a Chevy High Performance article concerning swaps into A-bodies which does a good job of listing the differences between a lot of different transmissions.
